PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana
Updated 29 September 2026 · Reviewed by Karthikeyan E, Proprietor
A home in Coimbatore that installs a 3 kW rooftop system in 2026 receives Rs 78,000 from the central government and a further Rs 22,000 from Tamil Nadu, credited straight to the owner’s bank account. The scheme was built so that a 3 kW roof generates more than 300 units a month, which covers a typical two or three bedroom household. This page sets out the exact amounts, who qualifies, the documents, and the 15-day process we run on your behalf.

Central assistance is 60% of system cost up to 2 kW and 40% of the third kilowatt, capped at 3 kW (PIB, 29 Feb 2024). The state top-up comes from G.O. (Ms) No. 102 of the Energy Department dated 19.09.2026 and is limited to the first 1,00,000 eligible applicants. Prices are our current quotes within 50 km of the city and include structure, wiring, earthing and net-metering paperwork.

Under G.O. 102, the TN Government provides an additional top-up subsidy over PM Surya Ghar.
Read Full G.O. 102 Details →Coimbatore averages about 5.5 peak sun hours, so each kilowatt produces roughly 5.5 units a day. The examples below use that figure and our current prices.
Around 5.5 units a day, or 165 a month. Net cost Rs 51,400 after Rs 35,000 in subsidies. Bill saving is about Rs 900 a month, so the system pays for itself in under five years. See the 1 kW system.
About 16.5 units a day, close to 500 a month. Net cost Rs 1,05,000 after the full Rs 1,00,000. Typical saving is Rs 2,500 a month, which returns the investment in roughly 42 months. See the 3 kW system.
Around 27.5 units a day, over 800 a month. Net cost Rs 2,05,000; the subsidy stays at Rs 1,00,000 because of the 3 kW cap. Savings of Rs 4,000 or more a month bring payback to about four years. See the 5 kW system.
Banks offer collateral-free loans of around 7% for systems up to 3 kW under the scheme. We arrange the paperwork with nationalised banks and confirm the current rate during your site visit.

With complete documents the whole sequence takes about 15 days from site visit to first credit.
What Do We Offer
12-year product warranty and a 30-year performance warranty on the modules we install. Only DCR and ALMM-listed panels are used, because non-DCR modules are rejected for subsidy at source.
Inverters carry a 7 to 10 year manufacturer warranty that can be extended. Under the PM Surya Ghar vendor agreement we provide five years of comprehensive maintenance with no service charge.
A 3 kW system generates more than 300 units a month on average. Through net metering those units offset what you draw at night, so a typical two or three bedroom bill drops close to zero.
RK Solar Solutions has been an empanelled vendor since the scheme opened and has completed more than 500 residential installations. Search the PM Surya Ghar portal for our vendor rating: we sit in the top seven for the city. Our engineers cover RS Puram, Peelamedu, Saravanampatti, Gandhipuram, Singanallur, Vadavalli and everything within 50 km, and every application is checked by Karthikeyan E, who has handled more than 100 MW of projects over 15 years.
To you. The central amount is credited by RECL to your Aadhaar-seeded bank account, usually within 15 working days of verification. The Tamil Nadu top-up follows later from TEDA to the same account. RK Solar never receives the subsidy.
The scheme is designed so that a 3 kW rooftop system generates more than 300 units a month. Those units offset your consumption through net metering. It is not a cash credit of 300 units on your bill.
Yes. The central assistance is capped at Rs 78,000 and the Tamil Nadu top-up at Rs 22,000, so anything above 3 kW is paid by you. Larger systems still make sense when your bill is high, because the extra units are exported at net-metering rates.
Yes, if the flat has its own TANGEDCO meter and the association gives written consent for the roof area. Shared-roof installations usually work best at 1 kW to 3 kW per flat.
Fix the EB name first through TANGEDCO’s name-transfer process, then register. The portal rejects claims where the two names do not match, and the money is returned to the government.
No. After the central credit lands, TNGECL pulls your PM Surya Ghar data, TEDA sanctions the amount, and it is transferred by DBT. You only need to be within the first 1,00,000 eligible applicants.
RK Solar Solutions is an empanelled vendor under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and is not a government agency. Subsidy amounts, approvals and disbursements are administered by MNRE, RECL, the Energy Department (Government of Tamil Nadu) and TEDA.
